Of all the sounds we can use for healing, the voice is perhaps the most powerful.

Using words and syllables that have been used by the ancients for healing can bring transformative effects to the mind, body and spirit.

The effect of hearing oneีs own voice for the first time, in a place of empowerment and deep respect, can be profound.  Not only do we hear our own voices with our ears, but we feel the vibration throughout our whole bodies.

Using oneีs own voice combined with intention can help to cultivate the qualities within oneself one is aspiring to achieve.

Chanting can be used to achieve deep states of meditation and transformation.  The repetitive nature of chanting lends itself to trance and non-ordinary states of consciousness.  Through chanting, one can feel a connection with the divine within oneself, in whatever way has meaning for the individual.

From ancient times and to this day  chant has been used as a way of going within, of connecting with the Divine, of coming closer to the Divine.  Hindu, Tibetan, Hebrew and Christian religions have all used chant as part of their practice, not to mention the Sufis, who have a particularly divine relationship with chant.  Chant is also used in Shamanic practices, east and west, and within many, if not all, aboriginal cultures.

Whether it is through the chanting of mantras, of syllables, of vowel sounds, or of harmonic overtones, the effects of chanting are powerful.

Chanting evenings with Chantal are set up with a focus on a particular chant, to fully embrace and embody the qualities of the chant.  Focuses could include: compassion (Tara), abundance (Lakshmi), peace (Shanti), removal of obstacles (Ganesha), health (Ramaya), healing (Medicine Buddha), creativity (Saraswati) and many others.

As the chant builds in intensity, often the body can be inspired to take part in a trance-dance that evolves out of the chanting.  Often drums and other supporting instruments accompany the chanting, which enhance and deepen the experience.
